This Cooperative was constituted on 6th June 1971 from
the merger of the four Cooperatives which existed up to that time in El Villar: the
" Nuestra Señora de la Paz" cooperative wine cellar and agricultural credit bank,
the " San Isidro" cooperative wine cellar and agricultural credit bank, the El Villar
Olive Oil Cooperative and the " San Isidro Labrador " agricultural cooperative.
At present, it has 1,400 associates, drawn from the populations of Villar del Arzobispo,
Andilla, Higueruelas, Losa del Obispo, Chulilla, Gestalgar and Bugarra, who specialise
in the cultivation of grapes, olives, almonds, carob nuts and fruit.
The Agricultural Cooperativeof El Villar del Arzobispo is well-known for its wines.
It makes white, rosé, red and fortified wines.
Recently, the Cooperative's plant has been improved by the installation of modern
wine-making machinery, using self-emptying and stainless steel storage tanks.
The total capacity of the warehouse is approxmately ten million litres of wine.
A new cellar for ageing red wine has recently been opened, making use of previously
unused underground storage space, which is capable of holding 600 200-litre barrels
of new American oak, and is capable of being extended to 1000 barrels.
The Cooperative bottles an average of 7,000,000 bottles of wine a year,
50% of which is distributed in the Valencian Community, 10% in Canary Islands
and the remaining 40% in countries of the European Union .
